The Days Events
Be prepared for Carnival Events like you're never seen before as this year's Rotary Weymouth Carnival is back with a bang!
We kickstart the day with a great favourite for children and adults alike, the Sand Castle Competition. This starts at 10:30am. Bring your bucket and spade and get all creative whilst getting some tips from local sandsculptor Mark. Prizes will be handed out to the winning sandcastles!
From 10:30am there is also a day of football on the beach! Organised by Tim Davis and his team at WeySports (the Weymouth & Portland Community Sports Development Group) and including players from Weymouth Ladies FC, children of all ages will be able to come along and receive coaching and take part in organised beach football matches. Any ability can play, it's all for fun, and what's more it's all totally free! Watch out during the day, as Weymouth Ladies FC will take on a team of the Weymouth Carnival Committee, so who will you be cheering for?
At 1:30pm we've got the modern day classic, back again for women and children... yes of course, it's the infamous Beach Space Hopper Racing! Relive the 80s classic bounce as you race across the beach. This has become quite a competitive event over the years, so make sure you come on down and watch, or of course enter if you think you've got what it takes to bounce your way to a medal!
Dad's Bleep Test Challenge starts at 3:30pm on the beach, and this isn't for the faint hearted! If you're in to football, you will know that this is the test that all players fear when they come back for pre-season training. So we've set our up own Bleep Test on the beach. Do you think you're fitter than Drogba or Rooney? Test yourself if you dare!
It's back!!! The age old classic Waitress Trolley Race returns to Weymouth Carnival, something that the owners of Banus were quick to come forward and sponsor. Will owner Georgina Grayson be able to win the crown, or will a greater waitress step forward and take the crown? It takes place outside Banus at 5pm, so make sure you come along and cheer your favourite restaurant or bar on!
New for 2010, and never before seen in Weymouth, we have the Coach Pull Challenge. So where do we start? Bluebird Coaches have kindly supplied a 12,500kg coach which will be outside Marks & Spencers from 5:30pm. Father and son, Chris Reay and CJ from The Channel Guest House, along with Dan Milverton of Future Physiques, will each take it in turns to pull this massive coach 40 meters singlehandedly! This is no easy task, and to prove it, once they've recorded their times, pub teams of 6 can step forward to see whether they can pull this coach the same distance and record their times. If that's not all, just to keep it in the family, Sandra Reay, the mother of Chris, will then show how it's done by singlehandedly pulling a 4x4! Phew, this is going to be exhausting just watching them all!
Also at 5:30pm is the Childrens Fun Run which starts at The Kings Statue. The route starts there and goes up to St Johns Church and back again. It's all for fun, and great for kids who fancy a challenge.
Keep your eyes peeled for 6 Paratroopers who are attending Weymouth Carnival Day. These brave soldiers, all just back from time in Afghanistan, will be down during the day and will be taking part in all the events. Yes that's right, from the Sand Castle Competition to the Waitress Trolley Race, these guys will be competing in all the events. So if you see them, please don't forget to give them a loud Carnival Cheer!!!
